The QT Kids website provides teachers and
students with a valuable ICT learning tool and resource that can be used as the
focus of an integrated unit of work on the topic Transport.
The website has been designed with a target
audience of year levels four and five (8-10 years) however, some of the content
and activities can be used with younger and older students. An enquiry-based
integrated unit of work is the core component of the website. The Essential
Learnings from all Key Learning Areas are addressed with ICTs embedded
throughout the site.
The website and the integrated unit will provide
all the learning experiences, resources and assessment tasks necessary to
implement an entire unit on transport -from the past through to the present
day, and into the future. Assessment tasks and associated rubrics are aligned
with the Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework (QCARF).
The website recognises that learners learn in
different ways, in different settings and at different rates. Many of the
learning experiences provided can be used to consolidate understandings and use
of digital literacies. The unit has been designed to take into consideration
the learning preferences of middle phase learners.
Due to computer access issues and network
overloading, teachers may consider using the interactive games in small group
sessions. This will alleviate problems that may arise when too many students
are trying to access the same games. For those who do not have Adobe Flash
installed, a non-flash version of the site is available through the links at
the bottom of the home page.
